Mysterious Desert Lines Were Animal Traps

  • A series of low, long walls are cleverly constructed traps that used the landscape.
  • Gazelle, ibexes, wild asses and other large herding animals were the targets.
  • No one is sure why the kites were abandoned.

Discovery - British RAF pilots in the early 20th century were the first to spot the strange kite-like lines on the deserts of Israel, Jordan and Egypt from the air and wonder about their origins. The lines are low, stone walls, usually found as angled pairs, that begin far apart and converge at circular pits. In some places in Jordan the lines formed chains up to 40 miles long.
Were they made by some weird kind of fault? Ancient astronauts?
A new study of 16 of what are called desert kites in the eastern Sinai Desert confirms what many researchers have long suspected: The walls form large funnels to direct gazelle and other large game animals into killing pits. What's more, the kites are between 2,300 and 2,400-years-old, were abandoned about 2,200 years ago and are just the right size to have worked on local gazelles and other hooved game.

This Week's Sightings Roundup

Thanks to everyone who came out to the first Queen City ParaCon on Friday at Music Hall. It was great to hear some of the stories surrounding that place and finally experience it first hand. But the UFO reports were coming in even before Friday...

UFO Spotted 10pm Tuesday Night Over the Cincinnati Area
"...I went outside to see what my dog was barking at. On the way back into my house I noticed a light above the tree line. At first i thought it was a really bright star, but as I was looking at it, I noticed that it was sort of pulsing different colors. I came back inside and grab my camera and snapped several pictures and i shot a video a few seconds long. What had initailly appeared to be a stationary light was infact moving and i was able to capture it with my camera. It almost looks like a string of christmas lights and the color spectrum is amazing. The video shows it moving and changing colors. I have lived here for over 18 years and I have never seen anything like it before ...  I went back out [Wednesday night] around the same time to see if the object appeared again, or might have been a star, it however was not there tonight. It seemed to be hovering over the power company that has been engaging in some weird activity itself in the last few years."
We have not yet received the video, but will post it when we do. Another color changing UFO was spotted by a different witness on Friday night...
"As of right now, 4/9/10, 9:19pm, there is an unidentified object just hanging in the sky.  It's hanging between Oakley/Norwood (near Rookwood Commons shopping plaza).  It' s been there now for almost an hour.
It's not a star because it's too big, and it's not a satellite because I've seen them, and they are smaller..
It looks like it's changing colors around the edges.
Anyway, just thought I"d report it, as I've seen the same obejct appear there in about the same spot about eight month ago."
A caller to the Cincinnati UFO Hotline (5138765UFO) on Saturday night (4/10) reported the following:
"At 11:30pm I was in my backyard in Mt. Healthy and saw what looked like two balls of fire streak through the sky, moving southwest to northeast. One burned out first, and then the other one did as well. At 11:55 I had a buddy outside with me who also witnessed 8 more of these things moving in the same direction. Then around 12:15 there were two more."
This sighting is consistent with the Virginids meteor shower which is at its peak right now. Happy sky watching everyone!

Unexplained sheep attacks 'caused by aliens in UFOs', farmers claim

England -- A series of bizarre incidents involving sheep in Shropshire have led to farmers’ claims that aliens are attacking their livestock. Farmers near Shrewsbury claim to have witnessed sheep being “lasered” by unidentified light from UFOs.

They have linked the unexplained incidents, where sheep’s brains and eyes were removed, to the mysterious orange lights in the sky. They have found sheep with “neat holes” while their brains and other internal organs were removed. Other animals have lost eyes or had their flesh “carefully stripped away”, usually on the left side.

Phil Hoyle, 53, who has spent almost a decade investigating how the livestock have died, said the UFOs were found to have roamed a 50-mile "corridor" between Shrewsbury and Powys. Mr Hoyle and 15 members of the Animal Pathology Field Unit, claimed they witnessed UFOs at work last month while working during the night at a Welsh hill farm near Radnor Forest.

Light in the Sky in Cincinnati

From the Cincinnati UFO Hotline (513-876-5836): Witness watched a light in the sky blink on and off every 7-8 minutes last night around 12:12am. Approximate location was under the Little Dipper. The witness was adamant that it was not a star, and that it wasn't the first time "it's come to her."

Comment: From the right location a number of stars were visible below the Little Dipper last night including 2 Ursae Minoris and other stars in the Cepheus and Draco constellations. Atmospheric conditions often give a twinkling effect to stars.

UFOs Over Cleveland?

EUCLID, Ohio -- For the sixth consecutive night, Eugene Erlikh said a bizarre series of lights flickered outside his apartment building window. "It gets bright, bright, bright," said Erlikh, 20. "Different colors and then it gets dim and as soon as it gets dim, it starts moving from there, this way."

Erlikh said the unexplained light show has appeared in the skies over Lake Erie for six nights and his friend, Nick Hausen, was also a witness. "At first, I figured it was just a star but the way it would move, it would move so fast, I've never seen anything like it."

FOX 8 checked with NASA's Glenn Research Center. A spokesperson said they have a few aircraft that perform routine testing, but those planes were not flying the past few nights.
